The Giver, started out very strange, and I though I would hate this book, but as I kept reading, I became intrigued by the story, and now I really like it. This book reminds me of the book Eragon, and that whole series a lot. One of the reasons I'd say that is because in the book Eragon, if people know how, and try really hard, they can talk through their heads, like without having a conversation out loud, but through their minds. In The Giver, the actual Giver in the story "transmits" a memory from his mind into Jonas's mind. He gives him the memory, and then the Giver doesn't have that memory but Jonas does. The way people do things with their minds like that in both of these books really makes me see a connection between them. The Giver is a strange book, it is definitely not your average read, maybe it's science fiction book or something, but I haven't read a book thats like this in a long time. I am liking this book the more I read it, and I can't wait to start reading the last bit!
I am reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. In the beginning the book seemed very strange and frankly, just weird. But now I know why. I really love this book now that I'm farther in it. I'm actually wanting to read it. All the really weird stuff in the beginning of the book is explained later. Why their world is so weird is because they have no feelings or emotions which to me would be a world of chaos. But to them, it makes their world nice and orderly, and that's how they like it, with Sameness. When Jonas (the main character), received all the memories, happy and sad from the Giver, he was enraged. If I lived in a world which was dull and grey, then found out there used to be color in the past, I would want everyone to feel and see the wonderful colors of the world. In the beginning, I didn't really know that there was anything wrong. I did know that their community was lacking of fun and freedom, but nothing else. When Jonas received his memories though, it blew my mind. In the end, the Giver is a flat out interesting book, and I seriously can't wait to finish it! I even got my mom to read it.
I have to say, in the beginning of the book, "The Giver" seemed a little strange. Here's the truth, if I was just reading this book on my own, I would have put it down after the first page, but having this book as my assignment for school forced me to keep on reading. Surprisingly, as I kept turning pages in this book, it seemed to get more interesting to me.
Right now, I have to say this is one of the better books I have ever read. I personally got the impression that, from the cover, this book would be creepy and mysterious. Well, I guess it is in some ways, but it is more or less a book that describes the future, well, at least to me.
The main character, Jonas, and I do seem to have some things in common. We are both kids, around the same age, and are both excited about what our job, or I guess in this book, assignment, will be when we get older. I feel that this book has a message, but I'm not so sure what that specific message is, yet. For myself, making connections is very important in reading. This is why I tend to do it a lot, even without post-its.
I also have many questions, inferences, and predictions about this book. Asking these questions to myself, and getting the answers to them as I read, is actually a pretty fun experience. On the first page I will ask a question, then on the second page, there's the answer. Even though some questions are answered early on, I still have mind-fulls of them that have not even started to become answered. I hope the rest of this book is as interesting as it is now.
I think The Giver is a little strange. At the beginning of the book I didn’t really like it, but know it’s starting to get better. I think it’s confusing at times, especially when Jonas is given the memories from the Giver. It’s defiantly not a book I thought I would like. Even when I look at the cover it doesn’t look that good to me, but its actually really good. Remember never judge a book by its cover! The giver is very interesting. I can’t really figure out what the whole book is going to be about. It’s really hard to predict what’s going to happen next or what to expect. That’s why I like it though. It’s almost like on one page Jonas is a normal boy in his house and on the next page he’s receiving all the memories of the world. I can’t figure out if this book takes place in the future or the past. It seems a little old fashion but it has things I have never heard of before. I think it’s just imaginative, neither past nor future, but I’m not quite sure. Even though I haven’t finished it yet I think it’s really good and I’m looking forward to reading to the end!
I am reading the book The Giver, by Lois Lowry. At the begging of the book it was very strange but as I got more into it, it was geting more exiting. In the middle of the book it got a little more action and made more sence. By the end of the book it got even worde than the begging. The last line in the book let me hang because I had so many questions about the book I did not like it when it did that.
