Billy Creekmore by Tracey Porter

This book is full of connections for me. Billy and I are similar in several ways. We like to know what's going on around us, we have strong feelings about right and wrong, and we are both restless.

One of the text-to-world connections I'm making with this book has to do with the news this week of the miners trapped in the coal mine in Utah. It upsets me that the rich mine owners can be so heartless and dismissive to their workers in order to make more profit. I cannot imagine not caring if people die because I won't spend money to ensure their safety. The people who die in mines are important: they loved, laugh, and are part of other people's lives.

I've been reading this book whenever I get the chance and I can't wait to finish it, hopefully, tonight!
