I'm reading the book Savvy by Ingrid Law. I'm not so far into the book right now but it's still really good! Savvy is about a girl named Mississippi who is about to turn 13. There family is different than others. When a kid in their family turns thirteen they get their own savvy. A savvy is pretty much like a power, but I don't think they can ever loose it. When Mississippi turns thirteen she does not feel any change so she's worried she wont get a savvy. Her Papa is in the hospital and her mom and older brother, Rocket, are taking care of him. Mississippi has to have her thirteenth birthday with out her mom, dad, and Rocket. She is staying with her brother, Fish, and Samson, and her sister, Gypsy, and this friend of her moms, Miss Rosemary. She has one daughter named Bobbi and one boy named Will Junior.
Savvy is full of exciting things. It always surprises me. Savvy has brave, interesting, bratty, and loving characters, Mississippi, Rocket, Fish, Gypsy, Samson, Bobbi, Will Junior, and kids from Mississippi's Birthday party. My favorite character is probably Bobbi, Miss Rosemary's daughter, because she is kind of rude person and I like to watch how she interact with the other characters. I also like her because she is a nice and warm person in the inside, but on the outside she's a quiet, bratty girl. I also like Mississippi because she has a good sense of humour and is very brave. Mississippi does not really care what other people think of her and I like that.
I like the style Ingrid Law used. I thought she picked a strange subject but turned it into a FABULOUS story. I always wonder while I'm reading, why she named the characters such strange names like, Mississippi, Rocket, Fish, Bobbi as a girl, etc. I was also wondering how she came up with the setting and how she thought of a savvy. I thought that was cool.
As I said this book was really awkward and interesting, I thought It was very thoughtful, fun reading, and sad and happy at the same time. It was sad because the papa is in the hospital not able to wake up and how Mississippi is trying to help him. I was also happy reading Savvy because Mississippi was brave and how she and her friends cared about other people. This book is fantabulous. I highly recommends this book if some people are looking for a good book that is entertaining.
