Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism

Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism is about a ten year-old, gracious, but perplexed girl, that was dropped off at the doorstep of an orphanage when she was just a baby, and has been living there ever since. She can be very admirable and yet a devious little girl.

I really admire Molly because she is one of the most giving people. Molly grew up in an orphanage, so she was taught to share often, and give to others. Molly has demonstrated acts of kindness and humbleness including taking care of multiple younger ones and dealing with cooking and cleaning. Even when Molly used her hypnotic powers to get rich and famous in New York, she eventually packed her bags and returned to the orphanage in England, which she still feels is her real home. She made a hefty salary of forty thousand dollars a month, and gave it all to the orphanage.

Molly is a very thoughtful person, but there is a trade off. She deceives others in order to give to the less fortunate. She is very confused about how to use her special powers. Molly hypnotized everybody watching Broadway shows, and everybody working on Broadway to make herself famous and wealthy, but in the end, she used the money to help the orphanage. Molly also hypnotized a crook, but hypnotized him to be a loving person.
I think that Molly, like many orphans, wants to know who her parents are, and wishes that she has someone to look up to. Considering she has no role model, she makes some pretty logical decisions when there is nobody there for her. For the most part I see Molly as a giving girl, but I wonder how she will turn out in the next couple of books.

  1. Abby,
nice vocabulary! If this story is about a girl, why is there a dog on the cover? This it was a fantastic post.

  2. Max,
I thought the same thing when I saw the book at first, I thought I was reading about dog, at first, and got confused. The dog on the cover of the book is Petula, Molly Moon's dog.
