Crazy Lady is a Newbery Honor book. From page one to the page I'm on, I've been making questions, inferences, and I've been using my schema. To me this book is kind of strange because of the characters. And while I was reading, I was wondering about not only the main character, but about two spec people: Maxine and Ronald. Maxine is Ronald's mother. She is actually not just Maxine, but she is the Crazy Lady. Maxine is strange because she always wears a big, fancy hat and bright pants. She is also a drunk. I just got finished the part where Maxine was drunk. It was kind of creepy the way the author described Maxine when she was drunk. Then there's Ronald. Ronald is Maxine's son and has special needs. He is kind of strange because he is very tall and skinny. He always has has his mouth parted like he has something to say but so far the closest he got to speaking was moaning. I was wondering about Ronald when I was reading. Will Ronald ever speak? And if he does, what will he say to the very helpful main character, Vernon? Also, what disability does Ronald have? I think Crazy Lady is actually a good book. I think most people would turn this book down because of it's front cover. But you can't judge a book by it's cover! I would probably be one of those people to turn Crazy Lady down, because of it's cover. But ever since Maggie assigned me the book, I've been wanting to read more. It shows readers about friendship and how they come from the most unlikely places.
Crazy Lady, by Jane Leslie Conly, I think that the beginning of the book has a negative point of view, but by the 2ND chapter (page 6), it's not, except for the end of that chapter. I also think that it is the kind of book where it's like someone is a narrator from the story (in this case Vernon) but talking to you. Also, in chapter two, it has a past tense point of view. The book has a point of view, like when something major happened and it's really serious. By the look of the cover, it looks like one of those books with different grammar, such as Shiloh, but the grammar is the same as ours; but at page 9, there was a part where he said "If I'd spent a hundred hours a week throwing that ball, there mus have been kids who spent a thousand, they were so much better than me." But there is only 168 hours in a week (I know, I'm a smart-Alic). I think that the characters in the book don't really think Maxine (the crazy lady) and her son Ronald are weird, in the beginning(ish) it says Bobby, Jerry (Vernon's friends) and Vernon whispering about Maxine and Ronald.
Crazy lady is a book about a kid who starts out having a hard time in high school. To me it seems like it has some humor and some more serious parts. It also seems like it might be for older kids because it has cussing and it also talks about high school a lot. I think the story is probably based somewhere near the east cost of the US because they talk differently. I like the story so far because it has a good story line and because there's been at least some humor. I also like it because I know what pretty much everything means in the story, for example tutoring kinda just means helping someone get better at something or helping someone break a habit.
Crazy Lady is a Book by Jane Leslie Conly. It is funny and also it has a dramatic side to it also. It is about a high schooler named Vernon he is failing french and is not doing to well in any other subjects his best grade is a C- and his Mom said that she just liked that he tried that is what counts. I like the book so far it is a nice little book that you can read. There is a woman named Maxine and her son is named Ronald and he is Mentally ill. He is a Teenager and he watches Lassie and the Mickey Mouse Club House. So far it is a good book it has mutiple good stuff about it.
Why Crazy Lady? Why Crazy Lady? Why, Why, Why?! I had thought the first night I got assigned Crazy Lady for book clubs. I thought Crazy Lady was going to be the worst book ever. So what I didn't like about the book was that it was strange book in different ways. For instance, Maxine was a drunk, Ronald was mentally ill, and Vernon had a tutor who was old. Also, the book had a lot of times where Maxine got drunk and I've never really read anything like that before. But what I did like about Crazy Lady was that Vernon tried helping Maxine by taking care of her disabled son, Ronald. This, to me, was very kind of Vernon. But also, this book made you think a lot. Who? What? Where? Why? How? I had so many questions!
I actually think the audience for this book would be 5th, 6th, and 7th graders because it has some bad language and is somewhat complicated. It also takes place back then when you could by a tire for a dollar. I thought Jane Leslie Conly's writing style was kind of interesting. I think she meant this book to be for older kids, like I said. She didn't put in that much detail in Crazy Lady. She kind of just told the story with just a little bit of detail. On a scale of one to five, with one being the worst book ever read and five being the best book ever read, I would probably give Crazy Lady a 3.5. Right in the middle. I've read a lot of books in my life and I think some of them were better then this one. But then again, this book was actually good and I regret saying I wish I never got Crazy Lady as a book club book.
After reading Crazy Lady, I can say that I think it deserves a 3 (rating wise). I give it a 3 because the plot is decent and on some parts it's really descriptive. But on some parts I would wonder why a certain character would do something. You see, on some parts people would do things that just seemed really dumb. Even though some parts didn't really make sense, the authors writing style was still pretty much just like any other authors writing style you see nowadays.
I think the intended audience for this book is either adults or older kids. The reason I think this is because on some parts it talks about retarded kids or an adult getting drunk. This book can also get really boring on some parts, and adults are better at handling boring books than kids.
Crazy Lady is a book that I just read that from a rating from 1-5 I'll give it a 3.25. Because it does not have a great plot but not a awful plot. The author ( Jane Lesli Conly )makes sense in her writing. She makes you feel like the mane character (Vernon) he changes over the book and I like that about him he is mean to Maxine (Crazy Lady)at the beginning then he straighten out himself. This book is for mature audiences only some in fourth grade no maybe the beginning of fifth grade on. They have alcohol references and they have a mentally ill person in the book.
Crazy Lady was very good; I'd rate the book as a 4.00515 out of 5. This book would be good for people that like genres that are not mystery, or adventure, but like realistic fiction that are just between a few characters. Crazy Lady is the kind of book where someone is sad because another person died, so they try something to feel better, but because of that another thing happens so they they see the world differently. I think that Crazy Lady does not have the best ending, but over all is a good book. The way it was written does not sound like it took place in California, but that doesn't mean it's not a good book.
