Wringer (Julian, Nicole, Matteo, Lisa, Jack)

  1. After I read the first 58 or so pages of the book Wringer, I decided to stop and think of some questions about it. What did I like about it ? What made the story so good? How did it make me feel?
I thought this book was really interesting because it has lots of cool, descriptive details, like on page 3 and 4: " But this thing did not like to be forgotten. LIke air escaping a punctured tire, it would spread out from his stomach and be everywhere. Inside and outside, up and down, day and night, just beyond the foot of his bed, at the edge of the lips of other boys, in the sudden flutter from a bush that he had come too close to. Everywhere. Just to remind him. This thing, this not wanting to be a wringer, did it ever knock him from his bike? Untie his sneaker lace? Call him a name? No, it was simply, merely,. A whisper of featherwings, remminding him of the moment he dreaded over all others, the moment when the not wanting to be a wringer would turn to becoming one. In his dreams the moment had already come." I think that part sounds really mysterious, which is the reason why I love it. Wringer is the type of book that takes you into another world, the type of book that takes turns that you would never expect.
In other words, I recommend this book to any reader 9 or older.

  2. This "Wringer" book is better than I thought it would be. I thought it would be this book about an old man, who wants to strangle this ten year-old kid for his birthday, but I was wrong. Yet again. Oh, and it's better than a book about old men strangling kids. Somehow it pulls me in, even though I'm a little scared of it. When you think a big scary paragraph is about to happen, something else exciting happens, so you keep on reading and nothing scary actually ends up happening.
This book is a good read for people who need a good sit down and read book, and can't find a book they enjoy. I myself have an incredibly hard time finding a good book to read without getting distracted, but this book can make me read. And without getting distracted. Even better! Now back to the scariness factor. I lied a little there. Or at least in my perspective I did because on page 32 I got really freaked out! The main character was all happy, and then he started crying, and ran to his bed. What's even scarier is that in his dream, a voice says, "You have run out of birthdays," and then he wakes up to a bird flapping it's wings. You may not get freaked out as easily as I do, but now I want to abandon this book because I'm freaked out so much. At the same time though I want to keep on reading as I said earlier. If you don't get scared real easily,I would definitely suggest this book to you. On the other hand if you're like me, and get scared really easy, I wouldn't suggest reading this book. It could just be me, but if you get scared, or have nightmares and wet the bed, don't blame me. Because I warned you.

  3. I am reading the book Wringer by Lois Lowry. The book is sort of confusing, I don't get why anybody would buy 50,000 pigeons every year to shoot them the next day. The only good part about pigeon day is the wringer's job, they end the birds life quickly instead of letting them suffer after they have been shot, although they could just heal the birds after they had been shot. I think "The treatment" is really dumb, the treatment is just when Farquar hits you on the bone with his knuckle. The book is sort of confusing at the beginning but I think it will get easier to understand. I read a book like this a week ago it is called The Giver. It is sort of alike in a way but it is also very different. It is alike in the way that your life is laid out for you and you have to become something or do a certain job. It is different because in The Giver The characters have no choices at all but in I don't understand why that would be the only choice that you can't make in a town. In some parts it goes from present to past and then back to present and that mixes me up sometimes. I like the book in every way except for the confusing part

  4. When I started the book Wringer by Jerry Spinelli, I had an idea for what it would be about but I didn't really know for sure. When I read the first few pages I didn't get what was happening but I just kept reading. Later more of my questions got answered and I knew almost all of what was going on. Now I just have more specific questions about smaller things, like the details about being a Wringer and why you have to become a Wringer. I also have questions about why they would buy 5,000 pigeons just to shoot! There is no point to it, and those pigeons deserve to live a life. And when you turn nine, why would you have someone hit your arm and then you have, a giant bruise, a hurting arm, and a useless arm that probably handicaps you in some of the things you do regularly. And you get a little bit of pride because a famous wringer comes and hits you in the arm. And then you start making fun of a girl that is your friend and you put mud on her doorstep and then try to impress her with a bruise. I wouldn't be impressed by that. I would just think it would hurt and think why would anybody do that.
And I think that it is just wrong to buy five thousand pigeons just to shoot them down for no reason and then kill them by wringing their neck if they didn't die by then. And Farquar the one that hits your arm, I would be scared just to see him, much less get hurt by him. I just think that killing pigeons and after that wringing their neck and then after that lying and saying that you were putting them out of there misery by shooting them! They put them in misery by putting them in boxes then letting them go and then shooting them and if they aren't dead by then you crack there neck to kill them.
Of all the strange and confusing parts and the sad parts and creepy parts, this book is really good and I like it a lot and I can't wait to keep reading

  5. I really injoyed reading the book Wringer because it had a straight forward story line that some books don't have. I liked that the book really jumped out at you. Every couple of pages something unexpected would happen and you didn't want to put the book down. I thought that the author had a good writing style and I liked it because he didn't tell you a ton of stuff in one sentence and he made a long, interesting book because of it.
The audience for the book is probably kids from 8-15 who like an on going story. For me I would have givin the book a 5 star review out of 1-5 stars because the story was like a book that was fun to read and it was easy to read, but not too easy. This is why I would recommend this book to kids and teenagers.

  6. When I read the book Wringer I had likes and dislikes. What I disliked about the book is that in the very beginning you don't know what is happening and you try to make sense of it by reading it over and over but what you really need to do is keep reading. The beginning confused me when you don't know what it's saying. What I did like about it was that it was always saying something new in each chapter and different things kept happening and it kept me interested, and there was always something going on and something that makes you want to keep reading. I like how Jerry Spinelli writes because he makes you feel like your in the book and your with the characters and the things that are happening are happening to you. I also like how Jerry Spinelli puts emotions into his books and I like how he makes his books even better because he adds a lot of details. Overall I would rate this a four, if one was the worst and five was the best, because I really did like this book.

  7. Book Club Wrap Up!!!
I finished Wringer, thinking that wasn't so bad. You see when I started it I was kind of not in the mood to read it. Not only that, but it just wasn't really interesting me. It took me a while to get into it, like a long time. I think I had to get to page 100 or something before I started to enjoy it.
I was always reading the book at night so I kinda was getting a little scared. Either it was the book that was scaring me, or that I just get scared really easily. I liked the book looking back at it, but in the first 18 chapters or so (94 pages) I was a little bored with it. I liked the style that Jerry Spinelli was writing in, it just took me a while to get in the grove of it, and get used to it.
I would rate this book a 4 on a 1-5 scale because it was a good book, but it took me a while to get into it. I would recommend this book to some one as long as they were willing to stick with it.

  8. For me, Wringer was a little confusing at first, because I didn't really what they were talking about. Then, when I got deeper in, I thought: " Hey, maybe this isn't so bad after all!" It was pretty good, but a little creepy too. 1/100000000000 of it I don't get that much, but the rest was great. I kind of liked the author's type of writing, but still not that much. I recommend this book to kids 10 and older, because youger kids might get spooked by some of the stuff.

  9. I enjoyed reading the book Wringer by Jerry Spinelli. Although it was not an action packed book, I still liked it. This book is about a boy who overcame his fear of other people and shows everybody a secret he has been keeping from everyone except for one person. This book is interesting not in an edge of your seat way but a relaxing way. In this book the beginning is sort of confusing because the author just writes about things that had already happened in Palmer's life. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes relaxing books and will read a book all the way to the end.
