I am reading Dog Lost by Ingrid Lee. When I picked this book up I thought it would be a happy story about a kid who loses his dog then finds him again. But it's quite upsetting and sad because the dog gets beat up and kicked. I feel really bad for the main character Mackenzie because he has no mom, his brother ran away, and his dad is really mean to him.
I decided to read Dog Lost because last year we had book groups and this book was one of the books that a group could read. One thing I like about this book is that the writing isn't too small and it's not too big. For a lot of people this would be a just right reading book. Also, there aren't many unusual or hard-to-spell-out words. I have some questions about this book, but one thing I am really curious about is that Mackenzie says his brother is eight years older then him, but then he says his brother is eleven. And, in his school they said he is in third grade.
There seem to be many twists and turns in the story. For example, first his dad gets him a dog, but then he gives away the dog. I have mixed feelings about this book, but somehow I know it will turn out to be a good and interesting story.
