  1. I think the the charecter most admired is horis in this point of time but maybe later on in the book it might still be him but I think that there is going to be another main charecter like peg.

  2. I think my favorite character is, Peg but that might change. I think the setting is important because it was in the olden days and if I did not know that it would be hard to understand and get why they don't have so many cameras.

  3. This situation reminds me of a similar situation in many ather books where the charector is forced to do some thing that they belived to not be right or face the consquences, but in this book i think they did it a little diffrently and i think i like the way they put it better then any other book.

  5. I think my favorite character in the book, Seer of Shadows is Horis, he seems like a good person because when Mr. Mittleditch made his plan Horis thinks Its that the plan is a scam and mean and such and that makes me think so far he is a good person, and that making him my favorite character.

  6. I agree with Sydney, the setting is important. The setting is important (which in in the 1800s) because when Horis had mixed feelings about quitting and doing the right thing, or keeping his job of an apprentice. Horis decided to keep his job of and apprentice, because once you leave as an appreintice, you were on your own, and your family is not expected to take care of you. Now that is not the case, because you usually do not become an apprentice at a young age, and are still considered a kid even though you work.

  7. I think it would be hard to live in these years because your family does not get to see you very much. Horis gets to see his family every Wednesday night for dinner. I still think it would be difficult to live like this because, even when you were young you would have to go work for someone you didn't know. You would have to trust that person and do what they asked you to do.
I also think it would be hard to put up with Mr. Mittleditch's opinions. It would be impossible to keep the secret that he was planning to trick his costumers. I feel bad for Horis, for trying to help Mr. Mittleditch make some money, even though he's not sure that it's the right thing to do.

  8. I think it is interesting that photography today is so normal. People can take photos on their cell phones, iPhones, with digital cameras etc. For Horace, photography is totally new. It's even mysterious and a little creepy. That's why I thought it was interesting that when Horace looks at the picture he thinks he took of Peg, he notices that it isn't her at all. When I heard this, it made me feel a little queezy.

Also, I thought it was interesting to hear Mrs. von Macht's name. In German, von Macht means of power. I wonder if she will end up being a powerful character. Right now she seems nervous and jumpy.

  9. I agree with Cole, I think there should be another main character, but we as a class are pretty far into the book. I also think that it is kind of sad that he is only with his family for Wednesday nights.
I think that when Horris swept his secret camera and he got the perfect picture of Peg was a little un-realistic because thats a like one in thirty chance. Just my thoughts though.

  10. I also agree with Cole it reminds me of my dad and I. It is a little simalar to when my dad and I go fishing because when me my brother or my dad catch a fish we take a picture.Msr. Middleditch stalls by taking pictures of the queen while Horris takes pictures of Elanora.

  11. So far this book is good. The truth is I would not have pciked up this book and start to read on my own if I saw it. My favorite character is Horris because he seems like he is someone that wants to solve a mystery like in the book he just found out about gosts and feel like he is going to try and see if someone was playing a trick on him or if they are really real. So anyway I am really starting to like this book and I'm wondering whats going to happen next.

  12. I agree with Maggie I like Horis a lot because he thinks that what Mr.Mittleditch and him are doing is wrong and I would have thought the same thing.

  13. I agree with Sydney and Abby, the setting and time period are really important. Without these, I would not understand the story, and I bet other people wouldn't either.
I would not get the beliefs of cameras, and how most people thought their souls would be trapped inside the camera . They said things like "madam," which is really different from what we say now.

  14. I also agree with Sydney ,Audrey and Abby, that the setting is very important to this book. Without it I would not get the book and if I was reading it I would probably quit it. I think that I would be very confused if the author did not say in the begining of the book that this book takes place in the eighteen hundreds.

  15. I like the character Horace because he seems to be the guy who likes true explanations but likes to tell the truth. Overall,I think the book is great and i can't wait until the ending.

  16. I agree with you Talia, because if I didn't now where the setting was the book would be really confusing. Manly because now a days people photo shop pictures in other pictures a lot. In the book they made a big deal about putting a picture into another picture. Also not many people say 'Yes sir' or 'Madam' and if you did it would sound really odd.

  17. My favorite character in the book is Mr.midelditch. I like him because he is like me. He is trying to get money by doing more than what people ask him to do and he likes to laugh a lot and when he does something he likes to reword him self like me. one time reworded my self was when I got all my homework done really fast ,and I had a lot of homework.

  18. I think this book is a little creepy because Horace saw a angry face in a picture that he didn't mean to take.I also like Horace because he's a honest guy like me, well maybe a little more honest.

  19. I think my book, Hatchet, and Seer Of Shadows are both creepy. Hatchet is creepy because there is a kid named Brian and he's in a forest all by himself. He has nowhere to go, nothing to eat or drink, and injured really badly. Seer Of Shadows is creepy because there is a boy, Horace, that can see ghosts. I know thats pretty creepy, but I personally think my book, Hatchet, is a lot creepier than Seer Of Shadows.

  20. I think being away from my parents would be hard. I think Horace asks too many questions. And he is too worried about some stuff.
I also agree with Tommy, In think the setting in this book is very important.
At first, I thought this book was going to be a wreck and I would find an excuse to leave whenever there was read aloud. I normally don't like books where it's before the twentieth century. But this book i pretty good. Honestly, it's better than Skinnybones

  21. I agree with Olivia Kallai. I would not have chose this book for myself but once Maggie started reading it I thought it was great! I think that this book is kind of creepy, like how Horace can see Elanora as a ghost. I also think its weird how they did not have much camras back than and now we have digital camras, Camras on phones, and more.

  22. I agree with Olivia Kallai too, I have looked at most of the Avi selection, I don't think I would even come near this book, but when I'm reading my book I always think the main character is named Horace. I can't stop thinking about it! It's a great book and I would totally read it again.

  23. I like the author's, Avi's style because it sounds realistic and I like how it's old fashioned. I like the story so far and I think it's going to get better.

  24. I think my favorite person in the book is Peg, because she makes all the mystery part intence. Like when she told Horace that Ellenora was a slave too. I think that that was scary and made the book more interesting.

  25. I agree with Anna and Tommy, the reason that I agree with Tommy is because if the book did not have a setting to the book would be confusing. The reason Anna is because it is creepy how Horace can see Elanora when she is died. Its was very different back then how they did not have so much cameras that there are today.

  26. My favorite character would probably be Horris because I like that he can see "ghosts" or at least thinks he can because I admire that he does not know whats going on.

  27. My favorite charecter is Peg, because she is nice to Horace and no one else is. I am really exided that there are are going to meet at 9 o'clock! I was really wondering what could happen. Another charechter I like is Horace. I instested in his charechter, because he is areally good person who dosen't care that Peg is colored, and he belives in her. It is a very intreging book, good choice on reading it.
