The Giver is about a boy named Joana. He lives in a community that is very interesting. I liked this book because it is sad and fun. They get a job at the age of 12 and their life takes a turn. Their life is all about rules.
I don't think I would like to live in their world because the kids have to do things that would make me really sad. I think this book is good for book clubs because you can have a lot of discussions about what is happening. This book is sad in a lot of places but is also very happy in many places. I would give this a well deserved 10.
I am reading the Giver in a book club with Izzy, Katie, and Darian. So far it just seems really weird. I would feel like I was in a hole diffrent world if I lived the way they lived. I would feel isolated from other life.
ReplyDeleteLauren is right, I think the story plot at fist is kind of coufuing but then you get what's happening. Like Lauren said, they live in this community wtich is almost complitly isolated exepted for suronding communities. And they have no knowing of any simple words like "sled" or "snow". If I were Jonas I wold be scared.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have finished the book I am really surprised at the ending and at how the book kind of toke a turn. At first the book was confusing to me. Sadly the confusion part of my feelings around the book stayed with me throughout the book. At the end came something that if I shared would be giving away but lets just say it was surprising. This book is kind of like a river branching off into little creeks. As I read this book I thought; how in the world would the author think of such a story and plot? I also wondered what the authors other books are like. I would give this book a seven at the beginning because it was a little to weird and confusing but by the end I thought it deserved an eight because it was so clever.
